17 runs brought back memories! I never knew the name back then nor what was in store for us. Dawning recognition is an interesting state of mind. Kind of like going from wondering if there is a possibility you are lost to knowing it with absolute certainty. There is a certain relief from the suspense even if the news is bad. In that cypress swamp, at some point we knew we had to work simply to GET OUT, That our portages were going from being a mild diversion to an irritately intrusion, to work that had to be done since the sun was going down in a couple of hours. We had no guide and no idea of how far we had to go other than that if we didn't continue we would spend the night in there with no dry land and no flashlight. Ah, the adventures of youth! Great memories!!!

What a great site!! I listen to the story on NPR and it was very informative, I enjoy the detailed trip reports that you have listed on the sites as well as map and links that go to the trips. Keep up the good work.

Excellent information site on Florida Rivers. Anyone interested in volunteering to support the Hillsborough River for trash clean-up? May contact me at: patrick.potts@dep.state.fl.us You can enter one of Florida's oldest State Parks, sign up as a volunteer, and visit the real Florida. No fee for volunteer service.
